With its substantial oak construction, six upper drawers, decorative metal drop handles, turned feet and stretchered base, the piece has clear Tudor and traditional English Revival influences. Rather than disguising its age, our restoration was designed to celebrate these original details while giving the sideboard a much lighter, more contemporary appearance.

The piece was carefully soda blasted and expertly sanded back to its raw wood, removing the old finish and revealing the beautiful natural grain and character of the oak beneath.

A subtle white wash was then applied to soften the colour while allowing the natural grain and variations in the timber to remain visible. The sideboard was subsequently protected with two coats of high-quality water-based polyurethane varnish, creating a durable finish suitable for everyday modern living.

The original-style metal hardware has been retained, complementing the carved detailing and providing a subtle contrast against the newly lightened oak.

The result is a wonderful balance between period English craftsmanship and contemporary interior design — a character-rich piece approaching 100 years old, carefully transformed for a new generation.
